Hanmer Springs is a lovely alpine village, where it is said people come to heal. For many that healing eventually involves challenging themselves, and often this takes the form of public performance. Whether that performance takes place in the local fundraiser “Stars in Their Eyes”, on stage with the Amuri Players, or perhaps as part of the Summer Concert Series is entirely up to the individual, but which ever the choose, the result is invariably, a good time, lots of laughs, new friends and happy memories, not forgetting the gaining of confidence, and the concurring of a challenge.
And then there are those who are well past healing, have enormous talent, and take the opportunities offered in this small, alpine village, to just get out here and tread the boards.
Over the years, Amuri Players have performed many of the old classics, including Annie get Your Gun, Oklahoma and Oliver. They have recently ventured into several New Zealand plays, including the Birthday Party, Social Climbers, and Love on the Shelf. What’s next on the agenda? Keep you eyes on this page.
The local Netball Club have produced a high quality “night Out’ and fundraiser for the last three years in the form of “Stars in their Eyes” Always a sell out, and always a great laugh, as locals go well beyond their comfort zone all in aid of charity.
