Hanmer Springs is a beautiful alpine spa village, surrounded by mountains, with both exotic and native forest, two local rivers and many kilometers of forest and single track. Is it any wonder that it is a mega for Adventure Racing? What could be better than racing through the mountains, tracks and rivers during the day, soaking away the aches in the thermal pools afterwards, before a pleasant meal and a few drinks (and stories) with friends in the evening?

That is why there are so many races based in the area, including the Molesworth Muster, the Rainbow Rage, and the 12 hour Mt Bike events. Hanmer Events, in association with the Hanmer Springs Multi Sports Club, offers three of its own, the Four Square Half Marathon and 10km Fun Run and Walk, the Bivouac Mt Isobel Challenge, Alpine Village Inn Peak to pub, Hanmer Hammerhead, and the Krank Adventure Duathlon.

Why not come on up and see what all the fuss is about?

To the organizers of the Hanmer Half & 10k held at the weekend.
On behalf of myself, Heather McNabb, and my fellow male walker companion on the day, Colin Tasker, we would like to show our appreciation for the medals we received for being the first male and female walkers home on the day. There were many people walking in front of us, but they all also were running as well. We were 99.9 % sure there were no other genuine walkers ie( walkers who walked the whole way, no running) in front of us. This came as a wonderfull surprise, as we know you havn't been recognising walkers for several years now, because i guess it is too hard to police this, as there have and always will be cheats out there.
So once again, many thanks, keep up the good work. Prize giving was also over and finished with in good time, not like a lot of other places around the country, where they tend to drag on too long. Well done.
We have been coming to this event for quite a few years now, very pleased to see your entries increasing each time. See you again next year.

RE: Hanmer Springs Half Marathon and 10 km Run

Thank you – can I also say thanks very much to you and all the people who organised this event – was really good.

The drink stations, road marking were clear and the prize giving was short, sweet and to the point.

Regards

Leigh

RE: Krank Dirtwear Women's and Men's adventure duathalons

Thanks so much for organising such an excellent event! It was my first

Duathlon and first time having a go at mountain biking so I really appreciated that fact that the beginners course was just that and that I could actually do it! I will certainly be back next year with the hope of improving my race time (which should be possible now that I am not so scared of the downhill bits J). Jenny and I have raved about it at work and will encourage others to come along next year.

Once again thanks for the experience J

RE: Krank Dirtwear Women's and Men's adventure duathalons

Hi guys - just to say a big thank you for organising the race. The short course was a perfect course for first timers like me and really well marked out. It was so encouraging to have friendly marshals around the course spurring you on too. Thank you especially to for emailing me the enrolment form as I very much doubt that I would have entered - I certainly had never thought about it - far too scary for me! Anyway - thanks so much for your encouragement - I was really surprised to do it in the time I did. Keep it up - hope the event doubles in size for you next year. With thanks,

Grace (Thanks to Peak Fuel and Krank too - I love my new T. shirt!!!!)

RE: Krank Dirtwear Women's and Men's adventure duathalons

Thanks heaps for the results email tonight. This was my first duathalon - in fact my first cycling event. I had so much fun and am really excited to take part in more of these sorts of events. The mountain biking was really exhilarating. I would do it again next weekend!!! The whole event seemed really well organised and run and the course was exciting and varied.

RE: Krank Dirtwear Women's and Men's adventure duathalons

First up a big thank you, for Courtney's wee prize. She was over the moon, we will be in touch with the shop for her mountain bike lesson she is looking forward to this. It was a good size for us beginners. Hope it went as well as you had hoped and look forward to hearing about any more.

RE: Krank Dirtwear Women's and Men's adventure duathalons

Thanks for organising the event; I thoroughly enjoyed it as I do a few

Triathlon/Duathlons but it was so nice to have a different one with a

Mountain Bike section instead of a road ride. I would definitely do it again next year, and so would my partner if the men had the same race.

My name is Craig Kemp and my partner and I are promoting an energy drink which has no carbs or sugar. It is very exciting and we are interested in sharing our products with the people who are attending your upcoming event. Is this possible?

If you have the time I would love to sit down with you and discuss this further.

Please get back to me soon

Kind Regards

Thanks for a fantastic event and for the efforts of all your course marshals who were out there all day. Really enjoyed it and will aim to be back again next year with a load more people. Thought the course was superb for a lap race, achievable for everyone yet enjoyable for people riding fast.

Cheers
Nick

Re: 2010 Krank Dirtwear 4&8 Hour Mountain Bike Race
What a great day for racing on such a cool track and relaxed atomosphere, with everyone doing their own thing and no one getting upset if they come across a slower rider. We had a bit of a family thing going with my wife, myself and daughter doing the 4 hour solo, my son and his partner doing a 4 hour team, my daughters partner doing the 8 hour solo and a number of their friends from Chch also competing in the 4 & 8 hour solos. I believe we totalled 11 in our wider group. Not a grumpy word was said about the event or those par-taking in it.

My wife and I found the course a good challenge for us, as we are in the group that makes the rest look good, "we push them all from behind". Having said that, if you made the course any simpler then not many would ride it, so I reckon you got it pretty right for so many to excell and no big crashes or incidents.

I just wanted to say what a great time my team and I had on Saturday. The event was well run and was held on an excellent course, just the right mix of hill, single track and four wheel drive/off road riding. I hope you run this event again next year over the same course, as my team and I have all said we will be back. The entry fee was spot on, and the event, for us, ran smoothly.

Thanks to you and the other organisers helpers for the great event.

I think we achieved our usual objective of not last, and given that most of my time on 2 wheels lately has been of the motorised variety and my team mates were pretty much the same that is an achievement. Was all nice and relaxed, track was well thought out with plenty of places for people to pass me, and only one real climb for my legs to hate me on. They were about right with their estimate of 40 mins for an average rider, I was feeling very average and that's how long it took me for a lap, if it's back again next year I might even do some training and have a decent bash at it.

Thanks to the organisers for a good day, and with the very reasonable entry fee a cheap one. Neels
