Greystone Wines Waipara Valley proudly presents International Kiwi guitar sensation Billy TK Jnr and his band The Groove Shakers at the Hanmer Springs 2012 Jazz and Blues Festival at a festival finale just confirmed.

Billy TK jnr is on a roll - he has just co headlined the Fiji 2011 International Jazz & Blues Festival, The Sydney Blues Festival with performances in Australia as well as being only a small handful of NZ artists invited to perform at the 2012 Tauranga Jazz Festival with Keb Mo and Earth Wind and Fire.

“I closed the Sydney festival on the main stage which is awesome for a little Kiwi fella like me,” he laughs during a recent interview. He says that as he prepares for more shows over New Zealand, Australia and in the pacific and finishing an album.

Billy has toured widely in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. Supporting Jimmy Barnes at the 'A Day on the Green concert series, Billy was invited to play lead guitar with Barnesy as special guest on two songs after recording critically acclaimed albums and touring with George Thorogood, the Neville Brothers, Junior Wells, Mississippi Willie Foster and Joe Satriani.

According to George Thorogood, “Billy has got the whole blues guitar thang down.” Aussie guitar hero Ian Moss has described Billy as playing “like Stevie Ray Vaughan on steroids!”

So what can people expect from a Billy TK Jnr show? Billy says ' The best thing to say is they can expect to hear some passionate and powerful blues guitar playing of the electric kind'!

Hanmer Springs will be the place to go for the weekend of February 24th, 25th and 26th. Come on up and soak in the diverse jazz and blues sounds at the resort town’s cafes – or pack an evening picnic and join the audience for an evening concert.
Friday we see the Koru Tree Emerging Talent Competition kick off at 11am within the Thermal Pools and Spa complex. You can laze away in a hot pool, or sit in the cafe, listening to some wonderful young talent competing for part of the $2000 prize pool. Later you can hear some of this young talent play more from their repertoire, as the complex will be open for extended hours, or you can join the crowd over the road at Montieths Brewery Bar and listen to a variety of top jazz and blues talent into the wee hours.

Saturday brings a day of laid back musios strutting their stuff in a variety of cafes and bars, and also within the pools complex, so come out and enjoy a coffee, brunch, beer or wine, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. There will be no charge for all day-time performances at cafes and bars, and free entry to the Pools complex if you just want to listen to the performers. Swimmers will pay normal entry fees. Saturday evening and we will be enjoying an outdoor concert in the Queen Mary Centre grounds, just right for a family picnic. You can but your tickets at EventFinder online or at outlets in Hanmer Springs and at some Music stores in Christchurch. Food and beverages, including alcohol will be on sale on site, so sorry no BYO.
On Sunday, relax on the Village Green in the morning to the sounds of the Choral groups, followed by brunch at your favourite café, where you’ll again be entertained by Jazz and Blues artists. Then while you laze in the thermal pool before your drive back to the city, you can enjoy some more amazing talent until late afternoon. We look forward to your company.
