Race Info

7 December 2024

The Alpine Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km is back for 2024! Supported by Hanmer Holiday Homes the Alpine Marathon starts and finishes at the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp and runs through the picturesque Hanmer Forest on trails that are not normally accessible to the public. This is a truly unique race which provides expansive views of the stunning scenery and our thanks goes out to Rayonier Matariki Forests for allowing us to access Hanmer Forest.

The Courses

The courses predominantly follow gravel forestry roads with a short section on sealed road at the start/finish.

The Marathon course is not for the fainthearted, taking you to the highest point on Top Road and all the way out to the edges of the Hanmer River. It involves several steep climbs with a total elevation gain of approximately 700m. There is a cut-off time for the Alpine Marathon of 7 hours.

The Half Marathon still packs a punch with nearly 350m of elevation gain and the 10km race has 100m of elevation gain
