2 MAY 2020

The Hanmer Half Marathon takes competitors on a unique journey through Hanmer Forest amongst amazing mountain scenery. This is a great pre race for the Christchurch Marathon.

Half Marathon

*All races have the following categories - Junior (17 & under), Senior (18-39), Veteran (40-49), Masters (50-59), Classic (60+)*

After an initial 2km climb the route follows forest roads to a split at Jollies Pass Road. Here the half marathon takes participants through the main block of forest before linking up with the 10km route to run through the flat Heritage forest and a final sprint down the road to finish at Hanmer School.

The final 5km course follows Jollies Pass Road for 2km where it joins the 10km and half marathon for the finish.

Walkers are welcome on each distance, however due to marshall constraints the marshals will move from their positions in the half marathon once the last runner has passed.

Walkers must keep to the left to allow runners to pass and must not block the course. You must walk if entered as a walker, if you are seen to be running or jogging you will be disqualified.

Suggested Kit

Hanmer Springs is an alpine village and can experience a wide range of weather conditions. We recommend you consider carrying the following. Layered clothing, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, hydration pack, survival blanket, energy bar. Please do not wear headphones as this limits your ability to hear directions from marshals and hazards.

The Prize giving ceremony will be held at the finish area at Hanmer School at approx 2.30pm or when the final results are received. The amount of prizes per grade will be determined by the number of entries to the grade. There will be one overall walker prize for the Half Marathon, 10km and 5km, there are no age categories for walkers.
