Situated in a unique alpine environment, Hanmer Springs is only a 90 minutes drive north of Christchurch, the major gateway to the South Island of New Zealand. Hanmer Springs is a year round holiday destination offering a variety of outdoor activities, great cafes and accommodation.
The geothermal nature of the area has provided the beautiful Thermal Springs Reserve in which to relax.
The village is located at an altitude of approximately 400 metres (1300 feet). This provides a crisp clear climate, with snow falling on several occasions. The combination of the colder climate and the hot pools (normally 25°-42°C or 77°-108°F) is both invigorating and relaxing. The really lucky ones get to soak in the hot pools when it is snowing!
There are plenty of shops to wander through and mountain activities galore. Check out Visit Hanmer Springs to plan your trip.
